The Kaz II is one of many “vanished crew” mysteries. Three Australian men were aboard the boat when they disappeared without a trace, the boat found on April 20, 2007. All of the men were above the age of fifty and experienced at sea. However, when it was boarded by police the boat was found devoid of life, the engine left running and various items, such as a running laptop and a plate of food, left behind. One of the sails was badly torn. A video tape was also found, showing the three men alive and well just before their disappearance. Foul play was immediately ruled out, as other than the torn sail there were no signs of a struggle.
Their bodies were never found, and the only viable conclusion put forth was that the men somehow fell overboard and drowned (a tangled fishing lure was found in the rudder, and it was purported that one of them tried to untangle it and fell into the sea). This theory, however, does not explain the massive tear in the sail.
